Faith Cheltenham: LGBTQ+ Inclusion To Avoid Bisexual Youth Face Skepticism

In a world with most straight peers, LGBTQ+ youth tend to face harassment and are markedly less happy. It makes it difficult for them to come out and gain acceptance over their lesbian and gay peers. Concerning LGBTQ matters, Faith Cheltenham works to ensure they feel welcome and valued by the community. She got her start in LGBT advocacy as a Human Rights Campaign intern on the Gore 2000 campaign. In 2006,  she co-founded UCLA's Braque for LGBT/SGL students of African descent. The LGBTQ+ is inclusive of many different sexualities and gender identities. Therefore there are many ways to ensure such groups are supported and included in their places of work.

The benefits of an LGBTQ+ inclusive goes beyond making sure the population of all sexualities and gender expressions feels safe and valid. Here are some effective strategies for LGBTQ+ inclusion.

  • Getting LGBTQ+ allies

There might also be people who are passionate about or interested in LGBTQ+ rights. with them on board, they'll champion LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace and society and act as a source of support for LGBTQ+.

  • Giving support and building connection with LGBTQ youths

According to research, there tend to be a disconnection between bisexual youth and caring adults, be they parents, teachers, or representative working with LGBTQ support organizations. It makes biphobia a great problem in the LGBT community faced by bisexual youth. For success, individuals need to have at least one person they can turn to when they are struggling with their lives. Therefore it's important to ensure bi youth are accessing support services. It will play a great role in stopping and even preventing harassment and discrimination against LGBTQ youth, which will, in turn, ensure community, in and out of school care settings are safe for everybody.

  • Celebrate LGBTQ+ history and events

Celebrating LGBTQ+ History Month, Pride, or Trans Day of Visibility in a workplace setting should be important like another day. It will not only create LGBTQ friendly environment but also create awareness and inclusion throughout the year. Such days can be used as learning opportunities for all staff. For this case, In 2013, Faith Cheltenham was the Co-organizer of the first Bisexual Community Issues Roundtable at the White House.

Conclusion

With matters concerned with LGBTQ, it will hurt and discriminate when young people are told they are not legitimate. LGBTQ inclusion help to bust the myths and misunderstandings associated with bisexuality. It will, in turn, create space for youth and such groups to find the support they deserve more open. Ensuring proper education will open the doors for young bisexual people to live openly and thrive.
